Early Years & Key Stage 1 Curriculum

Early Years & Key Stage 1 Curriculum

Learn With Us

The curriculum in Early Years (KG) and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) is based on the revised English National Curriculum (2014). We are in a fortunate position to adopt best practice from the UK and enjoy the flexibility to adapt our curriculum to reflect the needs of our international and multicultural student body.

We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that encourages our students to develop a love of learning through practical exploration, hands-on activities, and meaningful contexts for learning.

At Key Stage 1 (Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2), we pride ourselves on the method by which we deliver the curriculum. We have high expectations of the children so that they reach their full potential in every aspect of school life. Skills are taught through a multi-sensory and thematic approach, thus engaging high interest and promoting learning for meaning.

We believe that children deserve to feel secure and happy in school and should enjoy learning through work and play.

The subjects taught include English, Maths, Science, Information and Computing, Social Studies, Religious Education (RE), Physical Education (PE), Art, Design and Technology, Music, Spanish, and PSHE (Personal, Social, and Health Education).

PE, ICT, Music, and Spanish are taught by specialist teachers who are familiar with the whole curriculum and make a point of integrating their subjects. For example, Year 2 children study Mexico in Social Studies. In PE, they learn a Mexican dance; in Music, they learn to appreciate Mexican music and sing a Mexican song, which is, of course, sung in Spanish.

Specific ICT skills are taught in discrete lessons to all infants in our magnificent computer lab. All the software is linked to the curriculum, and the school is networked so that children can access their work on a computer in any room.

The children are nurtured to have self-respect and respect for others, living things, and property. We celebrate God’s love through prayer, Bible stories, songs, and assemblies. The teachers model respect in the way they teach and talk to the children.

We are a Christian school, and the Christian ethos permeates all areas of school life.
