Additional Learning Support Needs

At Cayman Prep and High School, we believe that every child is unique and should be supported to reach their full potential. We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, supported and able to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

Our Additional Learning Support Needs (ALSN) team works closely with teachers and families to support students who may require additional assistance to access the curriculum and thrive in school life. Through high-quality teaching, targeted interventions and personalised support, we help students develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to succeed.

Understanding and Supporting Individual Needs

Class teachers and learning support staff work together to develop a clear understanding of each student’s strengths and areas for development. A range of observations, assessments and progress-monitoring strategies help us provide the right support at the right time.
Where appropriate, students may receive a Learning Support Plan (LSP), outlining personalised targets and strategies to support their progress. We work closely with families throughout this process to ensure a collaborative approach to learning, wellbeing and personal development.

How We Support Students

Support may include:

  • In-class support and curriculum adaptations
  • Small-group interventions
  • Literacy, reading and phonics support
  • Mathematics support
  • Fine motor and handwriting development
  • Social skills and emotional regulation support
  • Targeted interventions for students with specific learning needs

Our ALSN team uses a range of evidence-based strategies, resources and interventions that are carefully tailored to meet individual student needs.

Building Confidence and Independence

Our aim is not simply to provide support, but to help students develop confidence, resilience and the skills they need to become increasingly independent learners. We celebrate individual strengths and achievements while providing appropriate challenge and encouragement, enabling every child to participate fully in school life.

Our Commitment

We are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their individual needs, have access to a broad, balanced and enriching curriculum. Our goal is for every child to feel valued, confident and fully included within our school community, enabling them to flourish both in school and beyond.

Working in Partnership

Strong partnerships between school and home are central to successful learning support. We work closely with families and, where appropriate, external specialists to ensure students receive the guidance and support they need at every stage of their educational journey.

Our Commitment

We are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their individual needs, have access to a broad, balanced and enriching curriculum. Our goal is for every child to feel valued, confident and fully included within our school community, enabling them to flourish both in school and beyond.
