Infant Curriculum

The Infant School Curriculum

Learn With Us

The curriculum in the Infant School is based on the revised English National Curriculum 2014. We are in a fortunate position to adopt best practice from the UK and enjoy the flexibility to adapt our curriculum to reflect the needs of our international and multicultural student body.

We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which encourages our students to develop a love of learning through practical exploration, hands-on activities and providing a meaningful context for learning.

At Key Stage One (Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2), we pride ourselves on the method by which we deliver the curriculum. We have high expectations of the children so that they reach their full potential in every aspect of school life. Skills are taught through a multi-sensory and thematic approach thus engaging high interest, plus learning for meaning.

We believe that children deserve to feel secure and happy in school, and should enjoy learning through work and play.

The subjects taught include; English, Maths, Science, Information and Computing, Social Studies, Religious Education (RE), Physical Education (PE), Art, Design and Technology, Music, Spanish and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education).

PE, ICT, Music and Spanish are taught by specialist teachers who are familiar with the whole curriculum and make a point of integrating their subject. For example, Year 2 children study Mexico in social studies. In PE they learn a Mexican dance, in music they learn to appreciate Mexican music and learn a Mexican song which is, of course, sung in Spanish.

Specific ICT skills are taught in discrete lessons to all Infants in our magnificent computer lab. All the software is linked to the curriculum and the school is networked so that children can access their work on a computer in any room.

The children are nurtured to have self respect, respect for others, living things and property. We celebrate Gods love through prayer, bible stories, songs and assemblies. The teachers model respect in the way they teach and talk to the children.

We are a Christian school, and the Christian ethos permeates all areas of school life.
