Phonics Resources
At Cayman Prep and High School, we use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme to teach phonics in Kindergarten and Key Stage 1. Through daily phonics lessons, children learn to recognise sounds, link them to letters and letter groups, blend sounds to read words, and segment words for spelling. These essential skills provide the foundation for confident reading and writing.
On this page, you will find a range of resources to support phonics learning at home, including grapheme mats, phase-specific sound mats, and an overview of the Little Wandle programme.

- KG – Year 1 Little Wandle Programme Overview – A half-termly breakdown of the sounds and words taught in Kindergarten and Year 1.
- KG Phase 2 Grapheme Information Sheet – Information about Phase 2 sounds, including pictures and phrases to support pronunciation, as well as correct letter formation.
- Phase 2 Grapheme Mat – Capital Letters – Shows the correct formation of capital letters. Useful for children to refer to whilst writing.
- Phase 2 & 3 Grapheme Mat – Includes all the graphemes taught in Phases 2 and 3. Useful for children in Kindergarten and the beginning of Year 1 to refer to whilst reading and spelling.
- How to Say Phase 3 sounds – The pictures and phrases that accompany each Phase 3 sound, helping children and parents pronounce sounds consistently.
- Phase 2, 3 & 5 Grapheme Mat – Includes all the graphemes taught in Phases 2, 3 and 5. Useful for children in Year 1 and above to refer to whilst reading and spelling.

Supporting Learning at Home
Regular practice at home can make a significant difference to a child’s progress. We encourage families to revisit the graphemes taught in school, practise reading and spelling words using known sounds, and enjoy reading together every day.
By developing secure phonics knowledge, children build the confidence and fluency needed to become successful readers and writers.
