Cayman Prep and High School Year 12 Uni Focus Days: Preparing Students for University Success

On Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th June, Cayman Prep and High School proudly hosted the Year 12 Uni Focus Days, designed to guide students on their university journey following their exams. These two days were packed with expert-led sessions to help students make informed decisions about their higher education and career paths.

Key Sessions and Expert Speakers

Students participated in a variety of workshops, including:

  • Choosing the Right University and Course: Delivered by George T Swain from the University of Essex and Rachel Bannister from the University of Warwick, this session helped students understand how to select courses that align with their goals and interests.
  • Writing a Winning Personal Statement: Practical tips and strategies were shared to craft compelling personal statements, a critical component of university applications.
  • Employability Skills: The session focused on enhancing skills vital for future career success, presented by our expert speakers.
  • Interviews, Internships, and CV/Resumé Building: The Nova Group conducted engaging workshops to prepare students for competitive interviews and effective internship applications, along with professional CV writing skills.

Insightful Sessions on Studying Abroad

The Uni Focus Days also featured valuable guidance on studying internationally:

  • US Universities Session: Supported by alumnus Aiden Watler (current student at UC Berkeley) and Year 13 students Raldayne Thomas and Sarah Dailey, this session offered firsthand insights into the US university application process.
  • Canadian Universities Session: Shabeer Hussain Amirali from the University of Guelph, alongside Year 13 student Annabella Voaden, who secured a place in Canada, provided detailed advice on applying to Canadian institutions.
  • UK Universities Session: Alumni Maya Roye, Jahmar Campbell, and Nalani Swan shared their university experiences and offered practical tips on navigating UK university life and applications, giving students a valuable insider perspective.

Specialized Sessions for Aspiring Law and Oxbridge Applicants

  • Law School Workshop: Karolina Norris and Tawney Bennett from Truman Bodden Law School delivered an interactive session for students interested in pursuing law.
  • Oxbridge Application Guidance: Ms. Aranha provided focused support for students aiming to apply to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Supporting Students’ Personal Statements and Essays

Year 12 students began drafting their personal statements and college essays with ongoing support from our dedicated Sixth Form team. We look forward to continuing this essential work when students return in September.
