CPHS examinations are held twice a year, in December and June, in the school hall and in other designated rooms. All students will be assigned a desk and should use this same desk for all of their examinations.
About two weeks before the examinations a timetable is normally available, with details of the dates and start/finish times of examination papers and other relevant information.
You are responsible for having all the equipment necessary for examinations. You should bring two pens in addition to specific materials required for other subjects such as pencils, erasers, coloured pencils, a ruler and any maths equipment needed. You will not be allowed to borrow these items in the examination room unless previously agreed with the teacher setting the paper. Open text examinations in English Literature will require you to bring your own copy of the relevant text/s. You will not be allowed to borrow from any person. You will not be allowed to take study materials or notes into the examination room, unless you have a timetabled study session. If a study period is scheduled in the examination room, only studying may be done. All study materials must be placed in school bags before the examination begins.
The invigilator will give you any special instructions regarding the paper. It is up to you to read and follow the clearly written instructions on the examination paper. Read these very carefully.
You must not look into your desk or school bag or at any books or notes during the examination. Students who seek to gain the attention of another or in any way seek or appear to be seeking to gain an unfair advantage will have their paper cancelled at the end of the examination, and parents will be informed. Making eye contact with another student may be interpreted as attempting to communicate. If you need to ask a question during the examination, put up your hand silently and an invigilator will come to you. This should only happen if there is something on the paper that you cannot read or if you think there is an error on the paper. Do not leave your seat during the examination.
For written work, you must use dark blue or black ink only. Write neatly and legibly. If your work cannot be read, it cannot be marked. You should pace yourself so that you complete the paper in the time allocated. Do not rush through your work. When you have finished, check your work carefully for errors and make sure that you have answered in the way instructed. The number of marks allocated to each question is a way of gauging how long your answer should be.
Two main reports are issued each year after the examinations. Parents may collect the reports for Years 7 to 11. Years 12 and 13 students may collect their own reports. Shorter “Interim Reports” are issued twice per year and will be posted to parents.
The reports will give an indication of your level of achievement, effort and conduct. Reports for Years 10 and 11 will also show whether you are meeting the criteria for graduation.
Results from the external examinations are usually available after mid-August. Reports and examination results will be withheld if there are any outstanding payments due to the school.
